In the afterlife, the two of them are still "a creeping jenny" that has not yet taken form. They are waiting for each other, waiting for the other to return from the underworld. The wind of hell seems to be blowing in their direction, and they are both afraid that the wind will destroy their souls. They tell each other that they have come to the spiritual ring, and that the ring will not harm them. They also tell one another that they are also "precious to each other" and that they will do anything to make the other suffer. The narrator says that it is a "glorious death" to have one's soul "destroyed by the wind" of hell.
