The next morning, the two men wake up in the middle of the night, and the narrator tells the others that he knows they're good people, but that he's unhappy because of his unhappiness. He tells them that he doesn't need their concern, and that they shouldn't worry about other people's unhappiness. The two men decide to stay away from each other's beds for the rest of the day.
