About This Chapter
In this chapter, Mina explains that she has come to take care of her first-in-command. She tells him that she is grateful for everything he has done for her, especially during the trial and the coup. She reminds him that he was the one who gave out the correct orders during the war. She asks him to take her to meet the shogun, and he agrees. He tells her that the war will be their first battle, and that he is thankful for everything his father did for him. He reminds her that she was forced to face her own failings, when the war was over, and what was that goal. He asks her why they would give her bodyguards, and she says that it was a shock to her as well. She says that the empire is calling the war a coup, but that it is not because of being replaced, but because of the fact that the us military knows of her existence. She adds that she leaves Mina in her capable first-lieutenant position, and says that if she does kill Mina, she will beat her. He says that they will go to the takada base, and then they will return overland to the Ijf's camp. Mina tells him to get rid of any things that might upset his family when they receive their belongings. He adds that he never thanked her for coming, and asks her to come to think about it, because it is possible that she might be his only true love. He wants to ask her if she had planned to spy on him. She replies that she did not, but says that she feels guilty because she was doing her duty, while she gave in to her curiosity. He feels that she needs to stop being hard on herself all the time, but he is not saying that she should stop being herself.
