She is from a small town in France, and she has come to live with margaret because she is a "faust" or a "faithful" person. She tells the audience that she has been taught many things by the young girl, and that she is now able to live a simple life with the help of the sun. She explains that the reason for the village's poverty and lack of jobs is because of this "damn little witch" . The legend says that when a witch sells her soul to the reaper, she is branded as proof of her identity. If she survives this test, she says, then God will surely save her.
