In this chapter, the young lovers discuss their love for one another. The narrator explains that he has fallen in love with the young woman, but that he does not know how to make her fall in love. He tells the young man that his mother has contacted him and told him that she has found out about their relationship. The young man confesses that he did not like his mother from the beginning, and that he never agreed to marry her. However, as his feelings grew for her, he decided not to lie to her again. He admits that he was afraid that she would hate him because of the way things started. He apologizes and says that he is sorry that he even likes him.
