The chapter opens on a bright moon, with the disciples from the various sects competing for the title of "Master of the Great Exummation Matrix" . The young master from the jing sect, Xuan jian, is the favorite to win the contest. The disciple from the chien sect , Xan An, is second. The two men discuss the contest, and Xuan An tells him that the other side of the great exummation matrix is the source of the battle, and that he must protect it tonight. The other disciple, jian xi, is surprised that he is late, as he is the one who has to replace the other disciples. He tells the other disciple xi that he does not want to help him, because he is afraid that he will be killed if he fails to protect the matrix. He also tells the disciple that he wants to reduce the morale of the disciple by showing him that he cannot do the job on his own. The chapter ends with the two men taking a bath together.
