About This Chapter
In this short scene, we get a brief glimpse of the inner workings of the Incan Empire. It's clear that we're in the middle of an epic battle, and that's where we find our protagonist, Jarndyce. He's in a daze, and he can't believe that the whole of the galaxy is in danger. He tells his sister that he's going to kill himself in order to save her. He also tells her that he doesn't want to be a slave to the gods, but a lowly private detective. He says that the gods have already told him that his genetic make-up is not suited to the task at hand, so he'll have to go back to the moon. He then goes on to say that he senses great danger approaching, and warns his sister not to leave him alone. He wants to get a message from the commander of the empire, who's coming for a visit. Jardyce tells him that the orgy is about to attack, and the pirates are ready to attack. He reminds the commander that he used to hold him in his arms when he was a child, and now he wants to make him his own. He begs him to kiss her and make her his own, and then he leaves.
