In this chapter, the young narrator narrates the story of how he received a letter from an unknown person. When he opened the letter, the handwriting was so blurred that he did not know what to do with it. The next day, the letter was written in such a way that the narrator was unable to distinguish the handwriting from that of someone else. He was so frightened that he was admitted to the hospital for a prolonged period of time.
