About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when Hiroyuki's grandfather, who is the village's only wizard, felled a dragon with his magic. The villagers are trying to kill Hiroyuki, but he is the only wizard in the village, so he has to run away. He tells the villagers that he wishes to live among them, and that the stone from which he receives his wish is the same stone that his grandfather used to cast his curse on the dragon. He says that he will always remember his grandfather's gentle heart, which is why the stone reacts to him. Hiroyuki thanks his grandfather and his family for their kindness, and he says he is looking forward to returning home. The chapter ends with a description of a huge mansion, which Hiroyuki thinks is the lair of a cursed monster.
