About This Chapter
One day, Cymbeline wakes up and asks if she can walk. She says she can, but she's not sure if it's red beryl or rutile that's been wandering around the beach. She's glad she came. CymBeline tells her that she can't walk because she has something important to tell her. She tells Cymby that she was born a different kind of creature than the rest of them, and that she doesn't want to destroy herself. She explains that she wasn't "born the same way anyone of you were" . The lunar people want her, she says, because they want her to help them in some way. She wants to be able to provide them with a healthy, civilized lifestyle, and she decides to take the red diamond and make it his own. He explains that red is caused by nitrogen getting into the crystal and creating a deficiency of carbon atoms, which creates the rare red he wants. He also explains that they're different colors because the red color comes from a mineral called fluorite, which is made from fluorine. They're going to carve out a large stone and make a home for themselves on it. He's sorry that he's done all he can to help the other creatures, but he wants them to leave him and go their separate ways.
