About This Chapter
It's been a long day, and now we're back in the classroom with Emma. She's having a hard time adjusting to life at school, and she's worried about what's going to happen to her and her classmates if she doesn't get back to school on time. First, she tells us, there were two ships in the water yesterday: one over the wetlands, and one above her school. She tells us that it's unusual for two ships to show up at the same time, especially when they're only a few miles away from each other. Emma says that the ships turned her and the other students into mindless animals, and that's not a good sign. She wonders if maybe the assignment was too much for her, and if she should just chill out and enjoy the ocean. Emma wonders how she'll be able to make up for the fact that she can't communicate with the other kids. She says that Chironabar has told her a secret, but that she wants to keep it a secret so that she won't have to explain it to anyone else. She wants to be her lover, and Chironas's the only one who can help her. She asks that their relationship be based on friendship and equality, and not on a job.
