About This Chapter
"Your crimes are unimaginative" , says the narrator, who has no idea what the family would do to him if they found out what had happened to his mother. He's not sure what kind of person she was, but he does know that she refused to listen to anyone else, and that her family plotted to murder her. The narrator thinks that she was just a tyrant, but she was also a victim, too, like her father and denjiro. She expanded the family, but her father left the plans and policies to her. She believed that the best thing for the future would be for her children to marry men with good pedigrees. The husband he chose was very capable, and performed his duties perfectly. She was raised to be like her children, and the success of the family continued for decades. Do you think that she could change course? The narrator says that it would take a lot of courage for her to do so, but that she passed the time when she did, and knew it was her fault. She never had to worry about the family falling apart, or her kids miserable, and know that it was all their fault. He says that if they had planned the killing, she would not have screamed. He adds that she threw her purse and wallet on the ground to make it seem like a mugging. She made sure that no one would see her on the street, so that the police would not be able to find her. If she knew that all of her children were planning to kill her, then she would have run that would be her last straw. She knew that if she did not kill herself, then her children would have killed her, too. She threw the purse and purse in the ground so that it looked like a thief had stolen the purse. The man in the coat was the one who stole the purse, and he ran away. If grand father pointed out to his wife that everyone was plotting to get her killed, then he would be the one to blame. If he pointed it out to her that he was the murderer, then it is fair to say he is the murderer. He is not, he says. If the narrator doesn't agree with him, then the narrator is right to assume that he asked him to lead them to the right conclusion. He asks if the two of them agree with the narrator's interpretation of the name . The name rion is a Japanese word for lion, and if he had a son, he would name him
