About This Chapter
The narrator complains to his friends at school about the lack of students in the school's mystery club. He worries that if the number of students continues to drop, the club will be forced to disband. He wants to join the club because his friend, Iwanaga, is a member of the club, but she is not allowed to join because she is too shy to join. The club's president wants the narrator to join so that he can use his position as a student to keep the mystery club alive. He tells the narrator that he has already told him about the killer, and that he hopes that once the heiress joins the club she will attract more students. The narrator agrees with the president's reasoning, but he worries that the school will decide that it is better to leave the heiress alone than to allow her to be kidnapped again. He wonders if joining the club would ensure a peaceful school life, but the narrator points out that she was kidnapped five years ago.
