The second thing we notice about the fight is how fast the monsters are moving. This is because they're using a different style of attack than the humans do. They don't have the power of the humans, but they've got the advantage of being able to move at a higher speed. This means that the humans can't just run away and die. They have to stay and fight. The only thing that stops them is the fact that they have no way of knowing what's going on behind the back of the helmet. They're not even sure what the heck is going on.
