About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the second core of the ship is not destroyed, but that the man who nearly destroyed it a hundred years ago has left a successor. This means that the ship will not be able to continue to exist, and that the next generation will have to take its place. We learn that it will take at least 10 hours for the second ship to fire its cannon, while the first ship needs only 10 hours. The second ship has a "plaster-made" graviton-radiant emitter, but it cannot be used because it is made from the body of a dead man. The other ship has an "emphysometer made out of a placenta," but it can only be used if it is used as a cannon. The man who created the plaster is the same man who destroyed the ship, and he is not the same person as before. He is a different man, and the ship cannot be destroyed because he is different from the man before him. The two men discuss the situation, and it is clear that they are not going to see one another again.
