About This Chapter
Now that the flan has been eaten, it's time for the next phase of the story. The narrator tells us that it was only two weeks after the flan was eaten that they found the body of nova in a giant cocoon. It was nova who threw the cannonballs into the city, and it was he who indirectly caused the deaths of his parents. They decided to burn the cocoon and get rid of the nova copy, but two weeks later, they found a new one with another nova inside. It takes six days for the nova to grow back from his death state. He's wearing glasses, clothes, brain, chip, and everything else. We learn that the surface dwellers are facing a tough time right now, and the flan will be able to help them out. They're glad to see him, because he looks cool, and they don't need to be cyborgs to live in the city. They also learn that they can open a channel to the surface, and that they're not the only ones who can do this. They get a weird laugh from the narrator, who says that he got the flan from someone wearing glasses. The flan is a symbol of harmony, he says, and he doesn't want to be eaten by anyone who's trying to kill him. He wants to know if he can survive if he's trapped in the future, and if the ladder and ketheres try to retake power, he can fight back.
