About This Chapter
Now that he's grown up, Huck realizes that he can't remember what happened to him when he was a kid. He's been in a coma since he was 11. He wants to know what happened, but he doesn't want to tell anyone. Huck tells us that he wants his grandson, who will inherit the family's "inheritance," to suffer from his "dismal past." Huck promises that after they leave the orphanage, he'll give him a new name. He promises that he won't ever change his name, and he promises to make up for his sister on his own. Huck is so angry that he starts to cry. He says that he is the face of the family, and how could he do such a shameful thing? Huck wants to tell the family what happened.
