About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young narrator returns to the apartment where he has been living for the past seven or eight years. He asks the servant if he can borrow his phone, but the servant is hesitant, saying that he has forgotten his keys and that no one has been home. The young narrator tells him that he is thirsty, but that his grandmother is not home yet. He tells the servant that if he does not let him in, he will not give him the key to his apartment. He then tells the story of how his father has said that he will take care of him when he is old enough to do so.
