We're told that the narrator is going to have to take a shower, because he's so embarrassed that he can't even remember what he said on the exam. He's also worried about his girlfriend's health, because she's bleeding profusely from her nose. The narrator tries to calm her down, but she won't listen. She tells him that it's just normal to fail the exam at the beginning of the day, and that he shouldn't worry about it too much.
