About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the knights of the royal line of Maryam have captured two of their enemies, and that they plan to execute one of them, the princess of Lithuania, as a murderer. Maryam's brother, the Duke of Tartuffe, has been imprisoned in the North Tower of the palace, and the Duke is worried that the princess may be carrying a dagger that could kill her. The Duke tries to convince the princess to keep the dagger, but she refuses, saying that the Duke has locked her up on orders from the duke. The princess asks the Duke if he has ever treated his brother with respect, but the Duke says that he has only treated him with the utmost respect. She begs the Duke to let her escape, but he refuses to listen to her
