About This Chapter
In this brief scene, Roxane laments the fact that she has been sold into slavery. She tells Roxane that if she were to return to her native land, she would be sold to slave traders. She says that she will sell her off to hell if she ever regains her freedom. She adds that she is sure that Darnay would have killed Roxane if she had tried to harm him. Darnay, however, is still loyal to the royal family, and he and his men pledge their allegiance to the highness of the town. Roxane wonders if the pirates are still fighting, but Darnay tells her that they are preparing to attack them. He says that they should return to their village and that they do not want to live in the city.
