About This Chapter
The Parsian army will be divided into two groups, one led by Sam and the other by Cordelia. Cordelia asks Sam to leave Cordelia to her, but Sam refuses, saying that it would be inappropriate for him to present himself to his master with his "stomach of spirits" . They're going to split up the army, and Cordelia says that he'll tear the mask off and show it to the Parsians. He says that they'll be able to regroup at the crest of a hill and use the momentum of the charge to charge back down the hill. He's drunk, and he doesn't know where to hold back. They have a name, he says, but they don't have a challenge. He tells Cordelia that the parsians are counting on him, and that he fought well for them at Atropatene. He wants to know why he can't hide his face from others, and why he won't allow his face to be seen by others. He also says that thanks to the victory at Atropheles, he's become a free man. He asks Cordelia if she's going to stay with her master, and she says that she would like to enjoy her freedom for a little longer. She says that if he stays with his master, she'll pray for him in battle. She's not sure if he'd get along with Prince Aramis, but she says she'd accept it if it meant that he would get pulled into the royal family. She asks if he plans to work himself into a retirement, but he says he wants to work on something for a while. He plans to issue a calendar in the month, whatever
