About This Chapter
The scene opens with Aramis asking Agamemnon to knock on the door of his house. Aramis tells the king that he has come to beg his leave. He says that he is sure that some of the conspirators will harm the kingdom in the future. He tells Aramis that it is his duty to protect the kingdom and that it would be better if the kingdom were under the control of a man like Nestorus, who wants to destroy the kingdom. The king replies that he did not want Nestorus to be appointed to a high position in the court because Nestorus is a close friend of his and he does not share his radical political views. He asks the king to entrust his safety to Aramis and to let him lead his noble horse to the battlefield. He also asks that the king allow his men to lead Nestorus's horse.
