About This Chapter
The Parsian mardan, who has been banished from the royal court by King andra Goras, has come to the palace to deliver a message from the king. He tells the king that the kingdom of Persia is about to be attacked by the armies of the Kingdom oflusitania and that the prince of Persia, Arantxa, is preparing for his first battle. The mardan asks the king if he has forgotten about the banishment of the "impudent fool" from the court. The king replies that he has not forgotten and that he will release the mardan from his duties as mardan if he does not "strip" him of his titles as king or queen. The old man asks for permission to leave the palace, but the king refuses, saying that the old man has lost "all sense of propriety" in his speech. He says that the parsians should prepare for battle at the capital of Ecbatana, but that the enemy knows nothing about the terrain and that they may be able to identify the location of the battle
