In this chapter, we learn that the guardians of a school in Amu, Japan, are trying to figure out a way to prevent children from sneaking out at night. One of the guardians, a fourth-grader named Kairi Sanjo, is having a hard time with her new jack chair. The guardians are worried about her because she has been passing out wishing-help cds in the hallways. The parents of the students are also worried about the children's behavior. They are afraid that the students will steal the wishing cds from them and give them to someone else in the school. They also worry about the students who have been hiding them in their bags. They decide to go to the school's rooftop and watch a meteor shower.
