About This Chapter
Once upon a time, a man and a woman lived together. The old man went to gather firewood, and the woman went to do laundry. One day, the old man caught a peach and ate it. When the woman opened the peach, she saw a boy inside. The boy's name was "eren" and he was fighting with an ogre from the ogre island. The ogre was defeated and the boy was left with a millet dumpling. The three of them went to the ogre's island, where they ate the dumpling. When they reached the island, the ogre said that he would fight the boy in place of his grandfather, who was away on business. The two of them quarreled over the dumpling, and when the boy tried to eat the remaining dumpling, the monkey and the pheasant gave it to him. When he ate all of the remaining dumplings, he said that it would take a while for them to burn the remaining ones. He went on to say that the ogre would fight him in his grandfather's stead, and that the boy should not take the boat to the island because the ogre will fight him instead. The other boy, named "Jean," was also fighting with the ogre, and he and the other boy quarreled about the dumpling as well. After the fight, the boy decided to draw the peach on the flag as a gift to his grandfather. He did not want the ogre to draw it, but when he saw how happy the boy drew it, he couldn't refuse.
