About This Chapter
The next morning, the two of them head out for lunch at the studio of their mother, who lives in the same house as the young man they're about to meet. The two chat for a bit, and then the conversation turns to the topic of hotaru and his mother's relationship. The young man confesses that he's been married twice before, and that his parents' relationship was "dry out" and "strings attached" to him. He says that he feels lucky that his mother and father are so close, because he'd never thought of marriage as a possibility. He admits that he used to be "a little starry-eyed" about love and romance, but now he doesn't know whether it's true or not. He's glad to hear that he grew up "in a normal, loving, happy family" , but he wishes that he had "a real, honest, face-to-face talk" with his son. He wants to know if his son's upbringing made him think marriage was a good idea, and if he'll ever change his mind.
