In this short scene, we learn that the Duke of Mantua has rejected all of the princesses from neighboring kingdoms in favor of his own daughter, the Queen of Venice. The Duke is not interested in any of the women, and he does not want to be associated with a woman who does not deserve his attention. The Queen, on the other hand, is interested in the Duke's son, the Duke Senior, and she wants him to marry her.
