About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Dr. Bledsoe is the president of the Federation, which means that he can represent all nine prefectures in the Federation. He can also represent the entire population of the country, which is why he's the president. He wants to know how he managed to do this, and he wants to see if his sincerity is genuine. He could have killed everyone in the puny spaceship with biochemical weapons, but he chose not to do that, and instead put a Biotracker near his heart. If he died, he says, the whole ship would explode. He also says that he knows that the Federation is going to use space-leap to intercept the cosmic monsters and bring them back to the Federation using space-jump. He says that this is proof of his sincerity, and that he'll agree on one condition: that the lunatic who wants to return to the Nine Prefectures come back. He's going to lose all of his chances of escape once the nine Prefectures know about him. He doesn't want to have to use any of his newfangled technology, so he asks that they send a small ship over to help him. The population is too great, and the supply system isn't big enough to handle all the people.
