About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator tells us that he's decided to give up his job as a prostitute. He wants to be with the man he loves, and he wants to make sure that he doesn't fall in love with anyone else. He's not happy about it, though, because he thinks that if he were with someone else, he wouldn't be able to make up with him. He tells us, "I'm serious, this time. His proposal is very tempting. Why don't I feel any joy? look down, he clearly stabbed my body until it was covered with blood. It's unacceptable, he says, that he isn't taking his hand back. He asks if he can make up for what he lost. He promises to "make up for you" by "kissing his face" . He also promises to let him have what he wants. He says, "there's no reason to be scared" , and that he won't have to worry about what people will think of him if he stops working for a living. He reminds us that people will forget about him after the heat has died down, so he'll be okay with that.
