About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tells the story of how he and his family came to know about the affair between shu and clara. They were aware of it for a long time, but didn't do anything about it. Then, one day, nora got a bomb placed in her car, and shu decided to stab him. The narrator doesn't blame shu for stabbing him, but he blames clara for taking the incident for real, and almost losing her life. He says that shu has done a lot for clara over the years, and he's still trying to make things up for her. At the time, lots of agencies were looking for shu, and they even threatened him with violence. No one knew about it, but no one could get over it. That was the first time that the narrator used his family's connection to deal with such things, and it was his first time dealing with a private matter like this. Noah became a embalmer and tried to help nora, but she walked away from him, and no one wanted her to do so. So, he kept looking for her, and eventually, he became a celebrity. Now, he says, he sympathizes with her plight, and feels bad for her for walking away from a man she loved. He also says that clara knew about the mistake, and was willing to marry shu if she could give up the baby, but clara chose to keep it, so the two will be unhappy after getting married.
