The Governess tells Lockwood that she doesn't want Lockwood to get involved with Miss Jessel. Lockwood says that he just wants to have a drink of water. He tells Lockwood to hurry to the station, because he's just arrived in the city. Lockwood tells the Governess that he has to pick up his grandfather and put him in a hotel so that he won't be tracked down by reporters. He says he'll clean up the room after he brings his grandfather back, and Lockwood says he plans to talk about the hotel later. Lockwood asks if he can get off the train station, but Lockwood refuses to let him. He wants to know why he came to the city on his own, and why he didn't inform him of his whereabouts. He asks why he lives in the house of his former boss, when he could have stayed in the hotel where he was staying. Lockwood then asks if it's appropriate for him to live in another's house, since his house was burned down. Lockwood replies that it is, and that he decides to move out of the house. He then asks Lockwood why he and Lockwood are still outside, and he says that they're both "standing in the sun" .
