The narrator tells us that he used to live with the Gu family, but that his grandfather forced him to marry with the Fu family because he wanted to set him up for a better life. He says that he is now reborn and will not allow himself to lose to the gu family again. He tells his sister that she asked him to help her pack her suitcase so that she and her brother-in-law could elope. He also tells her that she was right to ask him to do so, because she had said that if he nodded, she would abandon everything. The narrator says that this hypocritical love made him suffer for three years, and that he wishes he could marry his sister.
