About This Chapter
When he wakes up, the vampire tells his mother that he's going to go to the hospital before dawn. He kisses her and says he'll come back at night. The narrator tells us that the smell of the hospital reminds him so much of his former lover that his sense of smell has gone crazy. He wonders if he smells the same thing when he is asleep. He's been in the hospital for a week now, and he hasn't been able to sleep. He wakes up to find that he smells like the hospital. He asks the nurse why she's so rude to him, and she tells him it's because he threw something at her when she didn't want it to be hers. He tells her that he knows they're lovers, but he doesn't think they hang out as often as he does. He wants to go home and be alone with his new boyfriend, but the nurse won't let him go. The vampire tells him to stop getting into the way of him and his new lover, and the two begin to argue. He says he just wants to be alone, so the nurse should stop getting in his way, and then he asks the vampire if he'd like to cooperate with him in a crisis like this. She tells him that he shouldn't be so angry, and that he should just say something to the vampire instead of getting into a fight with him. She asks him to give her some fruit so she can give it to him. He gives it to her, but she asks how long she has to be in hospital before she can go home. She wonders if she'll be able to get out soon. She says she just got a cut on her arm, so she wants to know what it is. The nurse tells her to grab the knife and get out of the way. She pulls the knife away from him, then pulls it back again, and so on.
