About This Chapter
The Volks attack more frequently, and the soldiers on the battlefield are forced to fight harder than usual. Rouncewell notices that the reinforcements have joined the Volks and are even better at close combat than the usual fighters. He tells his men to stop running ahead and to support the attack team in the rear. He also tells them that they have a car waiting outside waiting to take them to their headquarters. He says that if they leave now, they will be able to get there in two hours. He then tells them to take off all of her clothes and tells her that she is in critical condition. She tries to hold on to a bit longer, but she is too weak to move. She tells him to calm down, and he tells her to tell him what kind of burns she has so that they can treat her more quickly. She says that she has a subcutaneous fat burn, but it is not a third degree burn, because the fragments are so small that it will take time for it to become a third-degree burn. She then tells him that she will make sure he does not die.
