About This Chapter
Captain Rouncewell asks what's going on with the dog. He's worried that the dog is thinking about him, since he's been shot in the shoulder. He also worries that she's asleep, since she hasn't woken up yet. He doesn't know why she didn't pull back before he was shot, but he does know that she owes him her life. The captain says that he owes her his life, and that he'll do anything for her, even if it means risking his own life. He says that his wound to his left shoulder is infected, and his chest is burned from shrapnel. He adds that his wounds to his abdomen are minor, and he still makes it back to the front alive. He wants to know why the dog would want to do this to him, and the captain says he'd rather have sex with her now than with soldiers who are killed in action. He tells the dog to "bite rattle" , which sounds like a military term for "swoo swoo tap no" . The dog responds by biting the captain's face off, which makes the captain think that he wants to do something with him. He promises to do it if he can.
