About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the night of the battle. The narrator is standing in front of a group of soldiers when the machine guns begin to fire. He realizes that he has been shot in the arm and that his leg is broken. He is also wounded in the leg and is unable to walk. He asks the soldiers to help him, but they refuse to do so, saying that it is too dangerous for them. He tells them that he wants to die, and they tell him that he is not brave enough to die. He says that he will not listen to anyone who does not know what they are talking about. He then tells the soldiers that he was injured in the battle, and that they should have killed him. When he opens his eyes, he realizes that his legs are broken and he is dead. The soldiers tell him to move the wounded first, but he refuses to listen to them because he does not want to hear anyone who knows nothing. When the soldiers find him, he tells them he is still alive and that he looks like he took a beating. They tell him he is the only one alive who survived the battle
