About This Chapter
The next morning, the Governess wakes up to find that her husband is asleep. She is horrified to find out that he has promised to pay her back with the body of his dead wife. The Governess is also horrified to learn that the place where she is staying is rumored to be a very safe place for rich people. She wonders if she has borrowed too much money and wonders if her husband has run off with the money. She begs the man to buy her a meal, but he refuses. She asks him if he can use his body to help her in any way. He offers to take care of her meal or whatever she needs. She thanks him for the meal and then goes to take a bath. She notices that the water in the sink is dirty and she wonders if the man is going to give her something to do that morning. He is not there, and she is afraid that he will not wake up.
