About This Chapter
The next morning, the young man wakes up to find that his mother is in bed. He tells the woman that she is cunning and shallow, just like the foxes in the books he has read. He says that he does not know what the woman is trying to say, but he does know that her mother is not dumb, and that she treats her son like he is nothing. The young man says that the woman must love money, because she wears a "human mask," but he says that she must be a beast because she is still here. He asks the woman why she hangs out with him, and she says that it is because he is having fun. She asks if he has a special reason for hanging out with her, and he replies that he has no special reason, but that he just enjoys the company of others for the sake of fun. He then asks if the young woman's bed is uncomfortable, and the woman replies that she did not think it was. He goes on to say that he is fine with sharing his room with his mother, as long as she treats him like she does not exist. He adds that it has been one year since he found out about his mother's cruelty, and says that if he were really fine, he would not have made the face he did.
