The scene opens with a conversation between the Governess and her sister. The Governess tells her sister that she is afraid that she will be hurt by the Benefactor, and that she does not like him at all. She also tells her that she has heard that he has forbidden her to take pictures of the guests at the banquet. She decides to go ahead and prepare the food for the guests
