About This Chapter
In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character named "yuan youtao" . He's just arrived in Shanghai, and he's introduced himself as the son of a friend of his mother's, who died when he was a young child. The two of them have been friends since childhood, and now they're both living in the city together. We learn that he ran away from his home when his mother died, and that he has a picture of her, which he'd like to send to her. He asks her what happened to her back then, and she tells him that the picture is unclear, but she can tell that it's "something weird" in the picture. She suggests that they meet at a restaurant across the river. The girl is hungry, and the girl offers to take her to the restaurant for free. She's not sure if the restaurant is trustworthy or not, so she's going to take a look at the restaurant. She notices that the food is free, but the girl doesn't want to pay for it, so the girl tells her to stop by the restaurant and wait for the ferry. She also notices that there's a lot of food in the restaurant, which reminds her of someone she knows: someone named "tang monk" from the east.
