The narrator returns to the orphanage to find that everyone has been adopted except for him. The wind has blown his body into dust, and he is afraid to go outside. He tells the story of his life at the orphanage. He used to be an orphan, but when the wind blew his body away, he became smaller and smaller, so he was overlooked. He explains that he has been waiting all along for everyone to come back and adopt him, but they never did. He says that he is the only person who has been wandering around the orphanage everyday, and the wind makes it even more terrifying at night.
