About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a young man named Zhengzhou, who has come to live with his grandfather, Guo, in the city of Chongqing, China. Guo's son, Yulan, explains to his father that his grandfather has been expelled from the city because he has violated the terms of the agreement between the city and the government. Zhengzhou's father is shocked at his son's reaction to the news of his grandfather's expulsion. He is also shocked at the young man's lack of respect for the city's citizens. He tells his son that the city is a place of danger and that he should not be afraid of it. He urges Yulan not to worry about his grandfather. He also tells him that he will try to get his father's help in convincing his grandfather not to expel him. The young man, however, does not believe him. He does not want his grandfather to think that he is a threat to the city, and he does not wish to be associated with the city in any way.
